Kneipp’s health concept is to be acknowledged worldwide as intangible cultural heritage. The President of Kneipp Worldwide, Marion Caspers-Merk comments: “It is our aim to have Sebastian Kneipp’s doctrines on health included in the UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage. Forms of Chinese acupuncture have already been included in this list. If the Kneipp concept of health and prevention of diseases were included in this list it would emphasize and acknowledge the relevance of traditional European therapies.”
The precondition for inclusion in the UNESCO-list is the ratification of the treaty on the conservation of intangible cultural heritage. This has not yet happened in Germany, although it has in Austria. “As Kneipp Worldwide we will – together with partners such as the town of Bad Wörishofen, the German Kneipp Association and organizers from Austria and Switzerland – engage in the protection of our cultural heritage,” says the President of Kneipp Worldwide, Marion Caspers Merk.
